“Kyle Hardy Wins RUSH Crate Late Model Event”
“Austin Stover Wins Limited Late Model Feature”
By Brent Hottle
Winchester(VA)-The RUSH Crate Late Model Series was scheduled to visit the speedway on May 3rd, however Mother Nature had different plans for that weekend, resulting in the postponement of the event. Greg Gunter and series officials would make the decision to reschedule the event for this weekend. The limited late model and pure stock divisions would also be part of the schedule of events.
Once the time trials for the crate late models along with heat races for all divisions were completed, we would see a quick b-main for the crates. Next we would pause shortly for our weekly Invocation and playing of our National Anthem.
The first feature event of the night would be for the pure stock division. Pole sitter Walter Crouch would jump out to the early lead. He would go on to lead lap one over Allen Brannon and Jerry Jenkins Jr. Crouch would then begin to pull away from the field. Crouch would have a four car lead by the end of lap four. On this same lap we would now see Jenkins pull to the outside of Brannon to make a challenge for the second position. This challenge would go on for the next several laps, until Jenkins found the momentum needed to pull ahead and move into second position at the completion of lap eight. Crouch would use this battle to his advantage and hold around a half of a straightaway lead over the field. Walter Crouch would go on to win the fifteen lap, caution free event. Jerry Jenkins Jr and Allen Brannon would round out the top three.
Next it would be time for the RUSH Crate Late Model Series feature event. We would see Kyle Hardy continue his winning ways at the speedway and take the rain shortened feature win. You can see full results from this feature event at www.rushlatemodels.com.
The final feature of the night would be for our limited late model division. A short, light rain shower had shortened the previous feature. However, the rain stopped during the victory lane celebrations, allowing the show to continue. It would now be time for a limited late model race and a race to see if they could complete their feature before the next rain shower would begin. Pole sitter Austin Stover would lead lap one over Wesley Bonebrake and Keith Koontz. Stover would quickly pull out to a half of a straightaway lead by the end of lap six. By lap twelve he would pull out to a three quarter of a straightaway lead over the field. This lead would be quickly erased on lap nineteen as John Davidson would slow at the top of turn two. Rain would now begin to start falling on the speedway. Officials would make the quick decision to shorten the feature from 30 laps to 25. Stover would continue to hold the lead after the restart. On lap twenty-one Koontz would look to the low side of Bonebrake and make a challenge for the second position. Bonebrake would defend off the challenge and hold the second position by the end of lap twenty-two. Austin Stover would go on to take the feature win. Wesley Bonebrake and Keith Koontz would round out the top three.
We want to thank everyone for attending this past weekend's events. We look forward to seeing everyone back this weekend as it will be time for the Ernie D’s Modified National. The crate late models and hobby stock division will also be on hand to race on this night.
